The New Flexi

Psionflexi launches version 2 of the 5mx/MC218 !!!

Psionflexi tries hard to improve its products and keep up with the latest developments in flexi technology to give you the best product for your machine.  As part of this commitment I have just made 2 key changes to the next batch of flexi's I have designed.

  • Tinned and hot air levelled solder contact pads
  • Reduced length of 'tail' split

The tinned and levelled contacts greatly enhance the folding of the tail pads for those people that are a little heavy handed!  The gold plated connections at the ZIF end of the cable are still essential for reliable connection to the socket.  The original split between the tail and main flexi has been reduced to avoid a failure mode with the original flexi's where the split would propagate down the flexi and crack the touch screen connections (to the 'tail' section).

The New Flexi

If you looked at 'The Problem' page you will notice that the major cause of the flexi failure is due to a small hole in the middle of the flexi.  This hole is a tooling hole and is used during the manufacture of the flexi's.  All flexi's need to have tooling holes for accurate alignment by the manufacturer. However, my flexi's have the holes OUTSIDE the outline of the flexi and are removed once they are cut out from the sheet.

Here is a picture of my new flexi

The new flexi's have the following advantages:-

  • No tooling holes!
  • Extra flexible annealed copper conductors
  • Polyimide base and cover coat
  • Gold plated connectors/pads
  • Tinned and levelled solder pads (new for version 2)
  • Reduced 'tail' split for improved reliability (new for version 2)
  • Manufactured by a military grade supplier
  • Radii and chamfers on critical areas

Other flexi suppliers

If you are considering some of the cheaper flexi's that you may have seen, ask yourself the following questions:-

  • Is the flexi designed by a Degree qualified Chartered Electronics Engineer?
  • Is the flexi designed by someone who has 15 years of military circuit board design experience?
  • Has the flexi been 'designed' for quality or is it just a cheap copied import from Japan/Taiwan?
  • Does the flexi have Hot air levelled tinned contacts for easy soldering?
  • Does the flexi still have the long split between the main and touch screen connections?
  • Do the flexi's met the stringent requirements of BS 123400-003?
  • Are the flexi's manufactured by a military circuit board supplier?
  • Does the flexi have a 6 month warranty?
  • Has the company sold/fitted over 2000 flexi's?

You automatically get all of the above features with my flexi's.

Please note that I provide both a 'supply only' AND a 'fitting/repair' service for the flexi's.  Both these services are available Worldwide.
